The Role

What you will own.

You will own a focused, real problem at the edge of the system, working alongside researchers as the engineer who makes ideas runnable. Research engineering is the multiplier: you turn a researcher's rough idea into fast, reliable, reusable tooling — and often discover things along the way. You will pick up a scoped question, drive it end to end, and ship something the lab keeps using after you leave.

Responsibilities

  • Own a scoped research or engineering question end to end.
  • Build fast, reusable tooling that accelerates researchers.
  • Run rigorous experiments and communicate results clearly.
  • Improve the reproducibility and speed of the research loop.
  • Ship something that outlives the internship.

Qualifications

  • Strong CS fundamentals and fluent, clean Python.
  • Genuine curiosity and self-direction in ambiguity.
  • Evidence of building or discovering something hard.
  • Comfort switching between research and engineering framing.
  • Good judgment about when 'good enough' is good enough.

Nice to have

  • Open-source or research contributions.
  • Data or ML tooling experience.
  • A track record of finishing side projects.
Learning

What this track teaches.

You will learn

  • How to be the leverage point for a research team.
  • Building tools that compound others' productivity.
  • Driving an ambiguous problem to a shipped result.
  • The full research loop, end to end.
